Plaques Project

Flower Pink Plaque - IMGP7659

I’ve been pretty busy this week being ‘crafty’…..making plaques/wall hangings.

Flower Pink Plaque - IMGP7656

My son had a school business project to do and being a typical teenager, he left it until the last-minute to start working on it. It appears that a few weeks back (it could be months back, knowing my son) he was given instructions to set up a company, put together a business plan, design, make or indeed outsource the making of a product that he then had to sell. He came up with the idea of making plaques as he’d done this before, last year, at a previous school. Unfortunately, he never got on with it and found himself swamped with work that actually goes towards his leaving cert results, which this particular business project doesn’t.

Anyway, he ‘outsourced’ the making of these plaques to you know who! So that’s what I’ve done this week. I won’t have time to sell them, so it looks like I’ll be sticking a few euro in an envelope for him to hand into school and then be giving the plaques away to friends and relatives. If nothing else, it’s been a great experience at doing something I’ve not tried before.

I’ll pop up the images of the finished plaques and as I do more I’ll try to remember to take some pics of the entire process, from beginning to end. I was so intent on getting some done, I forgot to do that. Ooops..sorry!

Hope you like them.

🙂

  1. I enjoy arts and crafts stuff very much and look for folk art in thrift stores and yard sales all the time. Recently I found a 1′ x 2′ x 2″ deep glass display case. I put plastic flowers on the right side and paper butter flies on the left and hung vertically on wall. Thanks for your recent visit to my blog.

    • I love crafts but I’ve not done much recently, I’ve not had the drive to do anything. Last year I started doing up furniture again and really enjoyed it. I went a bit mad and bought loads of old furniture to do up but then ran out of steam. To my shame, I now have about 30 pieces of old and tired furniture piled up in in my bedroom and garage..the place looks like a second hand shop. 😀

Your display case sounds lovely, you should do a post about it.

Lovely to make your acquaintance and thank you for coming to say hello.

  2. I found a 40″ wide roll top desk in trash. Must had 10 layers of paint. Took 2 weeks but replaced missing brass fittings, did it in cherry, green felt little shelves and drawers, gold pin striping and a very thin piece of leather for writing top deep red with varnish finish on that too. Recently found old wood coffee table. Did upper legs with blue field and white stars, lower legs white and red stripes (flag effect), then covered top with pics of whaling ships and scenes, edge of top with copies of stamps of whales, side edge of top with nautical rope, wiped very very thin coat of maple stain over whole thing for aged look then 3 coats of varnish. Looks right out of 1830’s. Hope I inspired you. Years ago made end tables with Rev War and Dec of Ind scenes jigsaw puzzles on top covered with glass top.

    • Thank you for the inspiration, it’s great to meet a fellow upcycler. It’s really fun to do.

I daren’t count the amount of little tables I’ve bought to do up. I’ve finished about 5 of them…actually I still need to wax three of those. I might start a crafts blog and put them up on there. They’re nothing special, but it’s still good to practice.
